Job Description
Leonardo, a leading multinational industrial group, seeks a Weapon Integration Aero‑Mechanical Engineer to work in our Avionics Systems unit in Torino. The candidate will support the integration of weapons and suspension systems with the aircraft, contributing to the overall design, qualification and certification of the aircraft.
Responsibilities
- Support the definition of flight‑level weapon requirements in accordance with military, civil and program regulations.
- Define, design, integrate, qualify and support the certification and operation of weapon systems.
- Assist in the concept and design phase of the aircraft with a focus on weapon integration aeromechanics.
- Evaluate CAD models of aircraft configurations and produce technical reports.
- Verify CAD models of supplier products and produce technical reports.
- Verify the installation of weapons and their suspension systems on the aircraft.
- Design alternative weapon configuration solutions considering dimensions, weight, aerodynamics and maintenance.
- Integrate mechanical and aerodynamic loads.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (pre‑design, airframe, safe separation, etc.).
- Develop functional, interface and HW/SW requirements for weapon systems aligned with operational effectiveness and safety.
- Support the design and modelling of the aircraft system for aeromechanical and structural aspects.
- Manage technical and documentation aspects of suppliers (specifications, interface documents).
- Define the Statement of Work and control supplier activities.
- Support the definition of test requirements for rig and aircraft weapon system testing.
- Assist in laboratory testing, simulation, acquisition, stimulation and human‑machine interface activities.
- Support ground and flight testing for aeromechanical aspects.
- Evaluate test results, identify limitations and recommend corrective actions.
- Investigate weapon/system issues.
- Support aircraft certification activities.
- Assess maintenance aspects of loads and carriers.
- Contribute to the development of development plans.
- Be available for overseas travel (UK or Japan).
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering (structural, aerodynamics or mechanical).
- At least one year of experience in weapon integration with familiarity of military programmes and related standards.
- Experience with weapon suspension systems for dimensional and functional aspects.
- Analytical skills in requirement translation through aircraft modelling projects.
- Knowledge of project engineering and organisational and management skills.
- Programming skills for numeric analysis (MATLAB, Fortran, Python, etc.).
- Ability to define aircraft system requirements, interface documents (ICD) and functional specifications.
- Knowledge of MIL, STANAG and EASA standards and certification processes.
- Technical background in flight dynamics, propulsion and mechanical modelling.
- Proficiency with electromechanical laboratory tools and Microsoft Office.
- Experience with mechanical modelling (CATIA V5, Rhinoceros 3D, Ansys Spaceclaim).
- Proficiency in CFD simulation using Ansys (DesignModeler, Meshing, Fluent).
- Post‑processing skills for model optimisation and error detection.
- Excellent written and spoken English (minimum B2).
- Strong teamwork, communication, cross‑cultural interaction, organisational and planning abilities.
- Problem‑solving, outcome orientation, initiative, curiosity and openness to technological evolution.
